I think everyone wants to live in a beautiful house regardless of its location. Well, I am certainly part of that group. I always imagine myself living in my dream house with tile flooring, huge rooms, huge garden and sophisticated home technologies together with my parents. Hehehe! We have close family bonds; sometimes it gets in the way with my relationship to my partner.

To make it work, I promised my parents that I will build a house for them in this town while we live in the other part of the world. But, time is so fast. I already reached the age where I am supposed to finalize that dream and promise.

I don’t know what to do now especially now that they are already asking for my promise. I feel so guilty that I marry earlier than realizing those dreams. Do you think I have to feel this way?

Basically, a tile is made from clay or clay composite and is fired for hardness and to obtain certain characteristics. The “bisque” is the body of the tile and its face is usually glazed and fired in a kiln for density and the aesthetics of color and it is known as ceramic or porcelain tile.

In choosing a tile, the first thing that needs to be done is to select a certain look that you want to achieve. You need to be aware that there are wide number of tile options available on the market today. That is when choosing becomes confusing. Ideally, properly selected tiles will merge themselves with other elements of the house and not stand out too much.

Here are the things that need to be considered when choosing a tile:

• Function: You must ensure that you are looking for a tile that is suitable for your applications. Some rugged tiles can be installed outdoors in almost any climate, while some can stand up to wear and tear on indoor floors only, and still others are strong enough only for walls and counter tops. Heavily glazed, high-sheen tiles won’t work in wet areas such as bathrooms, entryways and kitchens.

• Durability: Also, you must learn the durability type of the tile you want to buy such as water absorption properties, the strength in terms of breaking, chemical resistance, and resistance to cracking and impact. Also, you must find out the difficulty level in terms of cleaning and the tiles resistance to markings. There are typically three tests: tile’s permeability to water set by The American National Standards Institute (ANSI); tile’s wear-and-tear rating and its suitability for traffic—called the PEI Scale; and the Mohs scale, which is a test to determine how easily the tile scratches.

• Aesthetics: You should choose pattern carefully that will go with the life of the tiles. Solid or lightly patterned tiles in neutral colors, as well as stone-look tiles, are classics that are easy to decorate around. Bear in mind that solid colors, especially very light and very dark tiles will show more soil. High-sheen tiles will quickly show dull footprints from people and pets. If you want the room to look larger than its size, opt for large, light colored tile. But, to make the space look smaller, use smaller and darker tiles.

The tiles that are chosen properly can go a long way. And, it will create a difference in any room.
