Google's 'sister site' launches in ChinaAccording to BBC News, a new search engine and social network provider called Goojje has appeared online in China. This site contains very similar branding to Google, and the final syllable “jje” sounds similar to the Mandarin word for older sister (jiejie).

Goojje’s search results appear to be filtered for sensitive content in accordance with Chinese regulations. Google has recently objected to those restrictions, but the new site appears to be urging it to remain in China. Google said on 12 January that hackers had tried to infiltrate its software coding and the e-mail accounts of Chinese human rights activists, in a “highly sophisticated” attack.

The California-based firm – which launched in China in 2006 – said it would remain in China only if the government relaxed censorship. Goojje has a message on its site which reads: “Sister was very happy when brother gave up the thought of leaving and stayed for sister”.

While Goojje sounds like “sister”, the word Google sounds similar to the Mandarin word gege, which means “big brother”. Google has declined to comment.

my personalized wedding giftAside from my pregnant friend, I’m also preparing for the wedding day of my other friend, Nessa. That will be on February 27, 2010. I learned this news from our previous colleague when I came to visit in her office. She already said before that she doesn’t want to hold a huge or grand party during her special day. And I am one of those people who oppose to that idea.

Now that she officially announced her wedding plans, where in I am invited, I’m presently searching for the best formal dress as well as personalized gifts.

The gift must be something that is for home use. I have several things in mind, but I am not pretty sure if I can afford it this time. Plus, I still need to sort things out before even buying it. I have to ensure that she and her new husband will like it.

the supposedly rest day

the supposedly rest daySaturday is supposedly my rest day. But, I am still in front of my computer. I thought about going out with my girl friends today and yet none of them confirmed. I guess all of them have something to do this day. As for me, I’ll just continue blogging since I have nothing else to do and I’m fed up doing the household chores over and over again.

Before I go on dropping entrecards of my blogger friends, I’ll have to go another round of stroller search. I mentioned in one of my blog that I planned to give one to my preggy friend. It’s her first baby and I want to make it special, for old time sake.

Even if I already found one, I still can’t get enough. I still want to search for the best stroller and I am determined to do that. In my continuous search, I found other baby gift ideas including the baby carriers and baby walkers. Those are good ideas as well. And both cost less than that of strollers. I might as well change my mind about my gift. Good thing I still have ample time to do it since her schedule is still in March.

Gates in a $10bn vaccines pledgeThe founder of Microsoft Bill Gates and his wife Melinda have said they will donate $10bn over the next 10 years to develop and deliver new vaccines. Mr Gates, speaking at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, said the aim was to see 90% of children in developing countries immunized.

Over the past 10 years, the couple’s charity has committed $4.5bn to the development of vaccines. This commitment has been called by the WHO (World Health Organization) as “unprecedented”.

“The increasing immunization coverage in poorer countries to 90% it should be possible to save the lives of 7.6 million children under five between 2010 and 2019. We must make this the decade of vaccines. Vaccines already save and improve millions of lives in developing countries. Innovation will make it possible to save more children than ever before. Money was needed to make the most of new vaccines now becoming available, including ones against severe diarrhea and pneumonia,” Mr. Gates said in a statement.

Melinda Gates added: “Vaccines are a miracle. With just a few doses, they can prevent deadly diseases for a lifetime. We’ve made vaccines our number one priority at the Gates Foundation because we have seen firsthand their incredible impact on children’s lives.”

“This was really an unprecedented contribution and urged governments and private donors to add to the initiative. An additional two million deaths in children under 5 years could be prevented by 2015 through widespread use of new vaccines and a 10% increase in global vaccination coverage,”  Margaret Chan, head of the World Health Organization said.

importance of home security deviceWith the growing number of reported burglary these days, it is a must that homeowners have protective measures at home. The purpose of having security cameras and related security systems at home is to help homeowners in protecting their assets and their family members.

However, even if homeowners installed a home security alarm, there is still a slim chance that break-in occur. There are cases where someone break-in to a house either not knowing there is a home security alarm, or thinking that they can outsmart it. But, it is less likely to happen.

Aside from protection, home security alarm at home will also give homeowners piece of mind and a sound sleep at night. They don’t have to worry about leaving the house for long or short periods of time.

getting insurance quotes

getting insurance quotesIt’s not that I don’t want to; I just don’t have time to do it. Looking for the perfect insurance is not as simple as it looks. Actually it is a tough job and one must put effort and time to go around insurance companies and the web just to get insurance quotes. It’s sad to say, but I don’t have time to do that. I may have my weekend, but I would rather spend it with my loved ones rather than sit in front of my computer.

But, I know the importance of having insurance as it acts like a shield in times of difficulties where it could easily drain a bank account. Probably I’ll just schedule my search during my leave. That if I have one. Hopefully I will have one in the next couple of days or weeks or months. Hehehe! I am not pretty sure about that actually.
