Basically, carbohydrates are sugars, starches and fibers that are in foods such as beans, milk products, cookies and rice. Carbohydrates break down into glucose, a sugar that fuels your body’s day-to-day functions. Some carbohydrates break down into glucose faster than others do. Eating too many of these carbohydrates can lead to blood sugar instability – dips and spikes – which can cause short-term problems such as mood swings and long-term problems such as Type 2 diabetes, according to MayoClinic.com.
Limit your intake of foods that are in the 70 and up range of the glycemic index. Examples of these foods are white rice, plain white bread and watermelon. Foods such as cookies, candy, soft drinks, ice cream and cakes are the highest on the scale as they tend to be made with pure glucose or another fast sugar such as high-fructose corn syrup. Strictly limit your intake of these foods and find foods sweetened with a sugar alternative whenever possible, recommends the Jackson Siegelbaum Gastroenterology website. Foods in the medium 56 to 69 range, such as bananas and sweet corn, are best eaten in moderation.
Soluble fiber – found in legumes, oats and apples – passes through your body without being digested, and it delays the speed at which your stomach empties, digests and absorbs sugar. As a result, food products that are rich in fiber will cause slower fluctuations in your blood sugar than foods that aren’t. For instance, the sugar in 100 percent apple juice will cause your blood sugar to rise more rapidly than will the sugar in an apple with its peel. Similarly, having a spoonful of sugar will cause a rapid blood sugar spike, but adding that sugar to a bowl of oatmeal will slow it down. Aim for about 14 grams of fiber a day for each 1,000 calories you consume. You would want about 28 grams of fiber if you usually have 2,000 calories per day. Read more… »

A few days ago, one of the oil companies here invited me for an interview. Well, it’s really a great honor for being chosen to undergo the interview since I’m only here for about two weeks and I already landed one. I feel so blessed even though I’m still unsure if I will get the job or not. But, the twist however, is that I need to travel for an hour and a half by bus to get to the office. Luckily, hubby did not protest when I ask him to accompany me.
While on the bus, I just can’t help, but noticed that most of the industrial buildings erected are metal buildings. I guess the companies prefer this type of building especially as warehouse and industrial plant. Some even use it as office buildings. Well, it is not surprising since metal buildings offer a number of advantages especially on the safety aspect. It’s strong and flexible that can withstand weather conditions, pets, and molds and mildew. In addition, it is also low in maintenance that can save money in the long run.
Oh well, I’m pretty sure I will be seeing lots of this type of building if I were to stay here for a long time.

Mainly, our body is composed of millions of cells. They have spaces in between them which are equally important like the streets for a city. These cells and the spaces in between them, in collective fashion behave as units performing various broad functions such as nourishment, oxygenation, movements, reproduction, etc. The intercellular spaces join one another and forms channels for conveyance and coordination.
The functional integrity of the cells, tissues, and organs, the mind and the body as a whole is solely dependent on the optimal quality of these channels, since they are responsible for everything from nutrition to excretion. Nearly 90% of our body is composed of water. Thus it is accepted that these activities are taking place in a fluid atmosphere, named as intra and extra cellular fluids which are kept separated by semipermeable cell membrane.
Waste and toxic depositions in the human body are a potential source of illness. Life styles have changed where more and more people are getting used to a stressful and sedentary living. Lack of exercise, eating at short intervals, junk food, etc., leads to unhealthy depositions in the body. They in turn make the circulation of fluids including blood, in the finer spaces sluggish.
It affects the permeability of cell membranes and reduces, the in and out flows. Secondly, the viscous material coat itself, being alien to the often go toxic and even starts producing toxic free radicals etc. The toxic and waste coating masking the entire life force has to be erased out. Only then body will be able to fight the illness by activating various defense mechanisms.

Even though I just arrived here in UAE, I’m already thinking of going back home. Indeed, there’s no place like home where I will be able to be with my friends and family. It’s not like I don’t accept change, it’s just so happen that I’m feeling homesick already. But, I don’t really have plans of staying in a foreign country forever. I’m just here to save some money and go back home and start a business.
Like I used to say, I always want to have a small business that is enough to cover my needs. I don’t really need a huge one because that would be a headache plus I’m not really a material person. Anyway, I’m currently considering the idea of opening a restaurant business. Actually, mom already asked me to fund this business under her name. But, it did not pursue because of her age. Since I’m much younger, it is possible for me to do it.
If ever if I continue this plan I would go for the used restaurant equipment. Purchasing new restaurant equipment is way too expensive for a start-up. Only those with huge capital can afford that. For me used equipment is already perfect so long it’s in good working condition. Well, let’s just see in the future if this will really happen.

Mimi, hubby’s sister, is getting ready to deliver her first child in this world. She is eight months pregnant now and will give birth sometime in October, which makes everyone excited about it. Who will not be? Having a new born is a gift and blessing at the same time. So, I also want to share some happiness and support. But, I’m continents away from our hometown.
Hubby and I are in UAE right now and it might take years before we could go back home. One way to send our congratulations, is to send her baby gift in the form of a stroller. Yep, it’s the first and only choice we have right now.
Currently, I’m looking at the UPPAbaby Cruz at peppyparents.com. This stroller is suitable for infants from three months and older (up to 50 pounds) – and suitable from newborn with optional infant seat adapter or optional Cruz SnugSeat insert – the 2011 UPPAbaby Cruz is designed to simplify the day-to-day activities of busy parents. It features the full-size, reclining seat that reverses, large storage basket, telescoping handlebar, generous sun canopy with extendable SPF 50 sunshade, and many more. This is indeed what she needs after giving birth.

Even though there have been arguments against it, children who have undergone the program actually do well on standardized tests and even do well in college and universities. They are even commended for their abilities to learn on their own through college and independence when they eventually join the work force. Of course, this also depends on the learner and the kind of training that they provide. Below are some of the advantages of home-schooling:
Flexible and dynamic programs - freedom is perhaps at the heart of the homeschool program. Children are allowed to set their own pace in learning the lessons. There are no time pressures to learn a certain task or to keep up with other people. The lessons can also be tailorfitted to the needs of the children.
For instance, if they are already good in Math and may need some work in English, the program can incorporate more time with English lessons and less with Math. The secret to the success of the homeschooling program is the flexibility and dynamism that it offers to students. It takes into account the learning pace of the child, their abilities and even their learning style.
No fix schedule - because the program is done at home with parents as teachers, there is no need for a fix time schedule. This does not however mean that they won’t learn the discipline of rising early in bed and adhering to a time-schedule. In homeschooling, lessons may start at a specific time but it may end whenever the child is through. For instance, if the child is able to breeze through the lessons fast, he or she can relax on the remaining time. There is no need to stay in the class and study. Read more… »
